Aunt Addie's Watch

Thaddeus:  I took some pictures of the watch and sent it to an appraiser online and he said that the case was made in this country and the works were from Switzerland.  Aunt Addie was Lola’s aunt—there was Lola’s mother and her two sisters and they all lived together in the same house when Lola’s mother was married to Dr. Vickers.   Just the thought of that nest of….no wonder he found somebody down the road.  But Aunt Addie and Aunt Ruth were very much a part of Lola’s growing up.  I don’t think I ever met either of them.  My understanding is that Lola’s mother, who was a Thornburg, had two sisters, neither of whom married.  Neither of them had an occupation that I know of but at least one of them painted china and I always think of Emily in Faulkner, A Rose for Emily, because in the story Emily gave china-painting lessons.

Liz:  I never heard Lola say anything affectionate about her mother.

Thaddeus:  No, or frankly about Aunt Addie or Aunt Ruth either.
